I recently posted Kid Ink's latest release, "Full Speed" [Listen to it: here], and it was a pretty good listen. I'd also heard good things about "My Own Lane", which was one of the first hip hop releases of 2014, so I gave it a listen as well. Don't quote me but I'm fairly certain his target audience is young ratchets in the club. Not saying that's a bad thing but...just saying. This project is filled with catchy radio songs, like the Chris Brown featured "Show Me", and "Tattoo of My Name", which is about Kid Ink wanting a girl to get his name tatted on her. Like I said...ratchet. Overall, the album is solid with some weak spots intertwined within it. Is he actually in his own lane though? Ehhh, I'd argue that there's quite a few rappers in that very same lane as we speak. But that's neither here nor there. At the end of the day, this album is for people who like to go clubbing and have fun and I think Kid Ink will satisfy those that this applies to. But they also probably pirate music so how well it'll sell is another story...
Anywho...ratchets and non-ratchets, listen to the stream below. Don't worry. It's free. =)
"My Own Lane" is available online and in stores NOW!
