Logic has finally released his debut album "Under Pressure" following four quality mixtapes, his first being the breakout "Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever". In the past year he has surpassed many milestones including joining Kid Cudi on "The Cud Life Tour" and giving an EPIC performance during this year's BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher (which I highlighted here: Hip Hop Awards) that catapulted him into instant stardom. The Twitter streets were on fire talking about his performance:
I'm here to announce that he absolutely did NOT disappoint. In this project, Logic focuses wholly on the difficulties of breaking into the industry, his dysfunctional family life, and his rough upbringing -- we all know how hard it is for light skinned, mixed kids to survive in the hood. This album is for sure a change from his mixtapes. It creates a darker atmosphere and tone but it's raw and real and beyond his 24 years. With lyrics like End of the month is the worst of the month / But the first of the month, put the weed in the blunt / That welfare check, won’t never bounce like my daddy did / But I’m glad he did ’cause it made me strong. I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that his daddy was the Black one in the relationship. His daddy was like
And although I was grasping to find a comparison for him in my earlier post the likes of KING Kendrick and J Cole now come to mind. His work is just as stimulating and full of a fervent depth that leaves you wanting more. The title track "Under Pressure" is nine minutes long. Nine. Whole. Minutes. Who knew that I could ever sit through a nine minute track and actually want more?!?
I have even more respect for the fact that there are no features on this album. It's all Logic, all day. Take it or leave it. He wants to be introduced to the world on his own terms. It's bold and risky and I tip my hat to him. He gives us 15 full tracks of just him with hints of his influences shining through the entire project -- OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Quentin Tarantino films. Logic might have felt the pressures of becoming mainstream but I think it's fair to say he's well on his way to success: where there's a whole new realm of pressure to fall under.
Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor. "Under Pressure" is online and in stores NOW!
