"I am American. And that is colorless." - Raven

Yes. You read it correctly. Those very words found their way out of the mouth of this young, BLACK, multi-colored hair woman pictured above. I wanted to understand but alas I cannot. Not wanting to be labeled as "gay" or "African American" is one thing but outright denying the very essence of yourself? I have no respect for that. There is no denying your blackness and why should you want to? I watched the interview in awe as you dug yourself deeper and deeper into this ignorant (and colorless) abyss. It was a train wreck.

MOTHA Oprah attempted to save you yet the age old adage reigned supreme: don't save her, she don't wanna be saved". Oprah looked downright offended...as she should've. I, for one, was offended as well. You aren't some misguided teen. You are a GROWN woman renouncing the most prominent part of your being. If I recall correctly it was a VERY Black sitcom that brought you to prominence. We damn sure didn't think you were clear or see thru or Casper the friendly ghost. We could see you, very clearly, on our television screens.

Sojourner did NOT tell the truth for you to walk around in a rainbow haze, disowning your roots. In the wake of #Ferguson and the daily injustices forced upon people of color, namely Blacks, I need those of us in the spotlight to put up or shut up. We have enough problems without your senseless blubbering adding undue confusion to the mix. If you don't have anything intelligent to say then just STFU. Just nod and smile. Dassit. I read your "clarification" and saw more of the befuddled, misinformed nonsense that privilege has afforded you. I bet you didn't see this coming, huh?

If you had you would've realized that being Black shouldn't make you feel shame. Instead the labels you should be shedding are the STEREOTYPES that racism and discrimination have come to forcibly attach to labels that we rightfully (and proudly) wear. You would've also realized, my rainbow haired sista, that "Raven Symone" is not even a little bit colorless. It is thee epitome of Black AF. Your name, in and of itself, announces your color to all who see and hear it.

FYI: American, colorless though it may be, is still a label. *sips tea*
