#BlackGirlMagic: Amandla Stenberg Pens Comic With Black Heroine

As if schooling the world on cultural appropriation [Watch: here] and making it on TIME's Most Influential Teens of 2015 list [Read: here] weren't enough, the young queen Amandla Stenberg has penned a comic book, Niobe: She Is Life, with a strong Black woman as the heroine. Well, biracial heroine, but we all know about that one drop rule lol and I gladly embrace biracial peeps over here. When asked about her decision to write a comic for young Black girls, Amandla told Huff Post “I connect to her mixed racial background and quest to discover her innate powers and strengths, to learn who she truly is…” I'm over here like
That's what I love about young ladies such as Amandla, Zendaya, Malia, and Willow Smith, they're using their platform for good and it makes me so proud to be exuding so much melanin! It's hard being Black in AmeriKKKa and it's awesome to know that so many young people take it upon themselves to shed light on important racial issues.
Niobe: She Is Life can be purchased online: [Amazon] and in stores NOW! Go support this beautiful spirit!

#BlackGirlMagic: Amandla, Malia, and Zendaya TIME's Most Influential Teens

When I tell you Black girls are MAGIC, I truly mean that they are MAGICAL! The beautiful Amandla Stenberg gave us a dose of how wise beyond her years she is when she served up a slice of humble pie and burst the white privilege bubble of so many clueless Americans when she went in about cultural appropriation [Watch: here]. Malia Obama is America's sweetheart. First daughter to the amazing POTUS and FLOTUS, scholar, beautiful, headstrong, and basically the consummate role model for every teenage girl in the world. Zendaya, oh my, where can I begin? She's basically made everyone under the sun take note due to her strong convictions and beautiful personality. She's proven time and time again that she's not just a beautiful face but an intellectual young woman with her head on straight. These teens are more than influential for their peers but adults as well. Is it weird that they inspire me as well???
At any rate, if you haven't kept up with these amazing young Black queens then you need to! I'm sure Willow Smith will be on that list before you know it! She's definitely an old soul and a force to be reckoned with!
Loving the role models that are arising in this generation. For a moment, I thought all was lost in this world of IG THOTs and fame whores. SHINE ON QUEENS!

Ariana Grande SLEIGHS the Wheel of Musical Impressions

First off I have to say that QUEEN ARI SLEIGHS! Like these impressions were on point especially Christina. Actually LMFAO they were all pretty spot on. The ad libs during Celine had me in tears, literally, and the mumbling during Britney? Amazing. Christina actually killed Britney too. At this point I have to believe that everyone does Britney better than Britney. I will say this though, not much can distract from the amazing vocals of QUEEN ARI but poor baby is blind as a damn bat. *insert laughing emojis* I wanted to throw some spectacles through the damn screen for her. Why would she ever take her arse on television without her seeing eye aid...whether it be a dog, an indentured servan...I mean an assistant, or even some, I don't know, contacts?!? Poor thing. I was like well okay. Y'all can't read the shit aloud for her? Got her looking like
Watch the video below but please, for your own sanity, ignore her desperately trying to read the teleprompter.

#SquadGoals - Kerry, Taraji, and Mary J Apple Commercial

I guess Apple Music got hip to the reality that Black Girls are MAGIC and released a Melanin filled commercial starring Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, and Mary J. Blige. The commercial was directed by the Queen of Melanin herself, Ava DuVernay, most notably known for directing "Selma". This commercial was flirty, fun, relatable, and squad goals AF!!! When I tell you Black don't crack?!? I watched that commercial and felt like a superwoman because I too possess that amazing Melanin. I was like
Watch the full commercial below:

Stay Melanin filled Queens,

Viola Davis' Win At the Emmys Was LONG Overdue

Viola Davis made history this past weekend by becoming the first African American woman to ever win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. And though I should be ecstatic, it was long overdue. You can't convince me that in 150 years there was NO Black woman worthy. BYE. Miss me with your covert white supremacy. At any rate, her speech was inspiring. She said, and I quote, "In my mind, I see a line. And over that line I see green fields and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line. But I can't seem to get there no how. I can't seem to get over that line." A quote from the most honorable deceased Harriet Tubman, a pioneer of her time as well. Watch the touching moment in full below:

Also nominated for the seemingly unreachable if you're a WOC category was the lovely Taraji P. Henson, who visited Ellen to speak about the bittersweet moment of losing to Davis, but the joy of having that first no longer a thing...finally! What a beautiful spirit!
I love the fact that Davis used her speech to recognize other women in the industry who have worked just as hard as she, who have paved away, and made it possible for young brown boys and girls to aspire to greatness. But...*dramatic music* you know her speech would not have been as powerful as it was without the resistance of privileged whites who feel the need to try and assuage their white guilt whilst crying their pitiful white tears. Case in point: Nancy Lee Grahn (Yes I made her name red like the white devil she is LMFAO). Now doesn't that sound like a southern ass name plagued with a racist history and white guilt?! She took her dumb ass to twitter to discuss what she felt Viola shouldn't say during her speech. She also went as far to say Viola was never discriminated against. Ma'am.
This moment IS NOT and WILL NOT become about you. Yes, you've raised the hellfire that is Black Twitter once they set their sights on a prey but NO. This moment is about Viola Davis and women who LOOK like her. Women who've had doors closed in their faces and glass ceilings placed above them time and time again. I refuse to let you take this moment of victory turn it into a tragedy. In fact, the only thing that's tragic right now are your mentions and your reputation. Straight like that. I'm pretty sure Viola was reading twitter like
Speaking of Viola Davis? I salute you Black Queen, may your everlasting melanin, now and forevermore, reign supreme. #BlackGirlsRock

Congrats to the other winners as well, namely Regina King and Uzo Aduba. I'm inspired each and every day by your accomplishments.

[WATCH]: Ariana Grande Pay Homage With "I Have Nothing"

The Honeymoon Tour landed in LA last night and Ariana Grande performed in front of yet another packed house filled with adoring fans and celebrities galore. She tore down the house with her setlist of both old and new music as well as a few covers. My favorite cover is that of my late great Fairy GodMOTHA, the incomparable Whitney Houston, "I Have Nothing". Mind you, I've heard QUEEN ARI DEMOLISH this song for the POTUS and FLOTUS and even Patti LaBelle was in the audience catching the holy ghost !
Listen to the beautiful rendition below:

Rihanna Tapped to Headline March Madness Music Fest

I guess Rihanna has finally made up with CBS after they yanked her Thursday Night Football intro in the wake of the "Ray Rice incident" because of her past domestic violence assault.
All is clearly well now because the pop starlet's single "American Oxygen" will serve as the official song for the NCAA Tournament. Listen to the snippet below in the March Madness promo:

Rihanna will also headline the March Madness Music Fest which is set for April 3-5 and will be live streaming on NCAA.com. Congrats Rih! I'm all for burying old hatchets but I hope they broke you off majorly for it and apologized for penalizing you for something you were a victim of. Victim blaming, eh? That's a new one for POC.

ICYMI: Azealia Banks Gives The Realest Interview of 2015

"The race thing always comes up, but I want to get there being very Black and proud and boisterous about it. You get what I mean? A lot of times when you're a Black woman and you're proud, that's why people don't like you. In American society, the game is to be a nonthreatening Black person. That's why you have Pharrell or Kendrick Lamar saying, 'How can we expect people to respect us if we don't respect ourselves?' He's playing that nonthreatening Black man shit, and that gets all the white soccer moms going, 'We love him. Even Kanye West plays a little bit of that game--'Please accept me, white world.' Jay Z hasn't played any of those games, and that's what I like."
Listen. Azealia Banks may be crass, uncouth, and borderline ridiculous most of the time but that's because she's young and doesn't know how to express her thoughts in a fashion in which they can be coveted and respected. Be that though it may but her truths? When conveyed appropriately? Man! She hits the nail on the head! No matter what you have to respect that and give her props when she deserves it. I read her interview in Playboy and I have to admit, though she expressed herself in a rather harsh manner, I was here for her and what she had to say. Check out some excerpts from her interview:

ON BEING BLACK IN AMERICA"When you rip a people from their land, from their customs, from their culture--there's still a piece of me that knows I'm not supposed to be speaking English, I'm not supposed to be worshiping Jesus Christ. All this shit is unnatural to me. People will be like, 'Oh, you're ignorant because you don't speak proper English.' No. THis is not mine. I don't even want this shit, so I"m going to do whatever the fuck I want with this language. I'm going to call you a fag or a cracker or a bitch."
ON REPARATIONS: "Y'all motherfuckers still owe me reparations! [laughs] That's why it's still about race. Really, the generational effects of Jim Crow and poverty linger on. As long as I have my money, I'm getting the fuck out of here and I'm gonna leave y'all to your own devices."
ON HER HATE FOR AMERICA: "I hate everything about this country. Like, I hate fat white Americans. All the people who are crunched into the middle of America, the real fat and meat of America, are these racist conservative white people who live on their farms. Those little teenage girls who work at Kmart and have a racist grandma--that's really America."
ON BEING AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST: "Even though I've always made really cool stuff, I did it with a little bit of a pop sensibility because I was signed to a major label. That's why you have songs like 'ATM Jam' and 'Chasing Time' that are more pop. But now I don't have a label to answer to. All the ideas I'm having are fucking cool and abstract and crazy and dope."
ON HER ABUSIVE PAST: "It started when I was 17. There's something very wrong with a man that age who wants to date a 17-year-old girl. I didn't know how to shave my bush and shit like that. I had a hairy p***y. I didn't know how to wear perfume. I had neon pink barrettes in my hair. And as '212' started to pop off and my career started to happen, he became jealous. He choked me and beat me up, and of course you should not be fucking with a man who puts his hands on you, but I was stupid and young.
ON WHAT RELIGION SHE IDENTIFIES WITH: "I don't want to say, but I'll tell you about one form of the religion. It's called 21 Divisions. When they brought the slaves over to the Caribbean, they syncretized all their African gods with Catholic saints. So in 21 Divisions there are Black gods and goddesses, and my mother practiced that when I was little."
That's just a piece of the proverbial cake that is the completely, utterly amazing, and outlandishly candid interview that Azealia gave that can be read in full at Playboy.com, and will hit stands March 20th.
