Unlike
JoJo, when Azealia Banks regained her freedom from the shackles of indentured servitude that was her label, she hit the ground running almost immediately releasing "Heavy Metal and Reflective", proving to haters and fans alike that she still possessed the same chops that catapulted her into the spotlight in 2012. But that's where the momentum died. We had all but lost hope that Azealia would ever release her latest project and with the likes of Iggy, who shamelessly dons her moniker, prevalent in today's music...was there a need for her? That question has, without a doubt, been answered. Taking a cue from KING BEY she launched this album into our virtual laps like a skydiver with no parachute. We didn't ask for it nor did we know what hit us...but the reception was positive. Hip hop embraced her whereas that shit could've backfired. So kudos.
"Broke With Expensive Taste" is
Azealia Banks in album form: unapologetic, outspoken, and uncensored. It's clear that she put the very essence of her being into this project and it worked in her favor. She set out on a mission to tackle several genres and clearly succeeded. I hope the world is ready for whatever it is
Azealia Banks has in store for us. I know I am.
