As much as I would like to do a track by track review of Meghan Trainor's "Title" it would be pointless. For the most part all I would really have to do is review "All About That Bass" then copy and paste the exact sentiment into most of the songs. Yep. That's what she has provided for us: a carbon copy, bubblegum pop, 1960s inspired, compilation of the same song with different lyrics. So to be completely honest, if you like "All About That Bass" and "Lips Are Movin'" you will like her album. It's like having "All About That Bass" on repeat...great if that's your thing but annoying AF if you were looking for some versatility.
The album basically boils down to tracks about self-respect, self-forgiveness, and a mistrust of the "cute" boys, i.e. "All About That Bass" and "Lips Are Movin'". The risks associated with jumping into bed too fast in "What If I Want To Kiss You Tomorrow". "Close Your Eyes" is the typical anthem about self-esteem and self-respect and not conforming to society's standards of beauty. While "Dear Future Husband" and "Title" contradictorily tell you the standards set in place for the opposite sex. All whilst sounding remarkably the same with slight changes to the bass line and the lyrics. Cool story, bro.
I do appreciate when she tries to shake things up...the effort does not go unnoticed. She brings in the greatness that is John Legend to add vocals to the beautifully sang "Like I'm Going To Lose You". It's an IMPECCABLE duet. Without a doubt my fave song on the album. But then she lost me with the tracks "Bang Dem Sticks" and "No Good For You" because she is using fake patois and this borrowed ass Caribbean accent and if that's not high key offensive as hell I don't know what could ever be.
I will not deny that she is talented but this album could have been better executed. She had all the push behind her with the success of "All About That Bass". And for the record...I need Meghan to retreat quick AF from the realm of offensive ass racial mimicry before she gets tossed in the same boat as Igloo Australia and that's NOT where you want to be. Trust.
